Tips on Safety for Women Travelers

Packing :
Packing right for your vacation is the key to having a safe and enjoyable time. Carrying too many pieces of luggage not only draws too much unrequited attention, but also creates a tedious and avoidable task.
Minimize your luggage and carry only the essentials. Having too many pieces of luggage becomes difficult to watch, especially at busy bus, airport, taxi and, or train stations, or for little things we take for granted, running to the restroom, stopping at a café for a coffee or a snack.
Another strong reason behind packing light is to feeling tired after carrying tons of luggage, and risk being less alert to your surroundings.

Booking your Hotel : Choosing a hotel is an essential part of your vacation. Besides great views, quality amenities and choice services, there are a few more things that we would urge you to research before making your hotel booking.
Browse the internet and check for comments from travelers on hotels that you’re interested in staying at.
Call the concierge’s at the hotels you’d like to stay at and ask them where they’re located, are they in a safe neighborhood, are they central to the attractions you’d like to visit, and things of that nature.
Choose hotels in busy, well lit areas. Avoid areas that are considered dangerous, or sketchy.

Do thorough research on the hotels before booking.
Before you check-in to your room, and relax, check your room to make sure the windows have secure locks and cannot be accessed from outdoors.
Don’t book a room on the ground floor and try to book a room near the elevator.

Dodgy and dark neighborhoods : Avoid dodgy and dark neighborhoods and to stick to well lit areas while sightseeing and throughout your vacation.
Avoid dark alleys and desolate streets, the same as you would do if you were at home.
When you venture out, try to go to places frequented by working professionals and tourists and that taxis are easily accessible and available.

Carrying money : To avoid drawing unnecessary attention to yourself, be discreet with your money while shopping. Flashing large bills could get you noticed by pick pockets.
Try to get notes and coins in smaller denominations.
Do not put all of your money in the same place. Divide your money into three or four packets and put them in different pockets in your clothing and bag.
Get a neck pouch or a money belt.

Dressing conservatively : Everyone loves to get dressed up, it’s fun. However, when traveling, it’s better to dress down, or conservatively, to avoid drawing unwanted attention to yourself.
Dressing conservatively. Make sure that the clothing you pack is understated and comfortable.
You should also consider leaving designer and brand name clothing, bags and shoes at home. The same goes for jewelry, “Less is more”. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry and lots of it. The wealthier you appear, the more likely you are to be targeted by thieves.

Being prepared for emergencies : Make sure that you are carrying all of your emergency contact numbers in case you need them.

Often, credit card companies have emergency numbers for travelers. If you purchase travel insurance, most insurance companies offer a helpline.
Make sure to keep the hotel name, address and phone number with you at all times, as well as local number for the police and ambulance services. If you’re traveling abroad, be sure to have the number for the American and Canadian embassies.

Act confident : Looking and acting confident always helps, even while you are travelling. Be alert and make sure to use common sense while making decisions.
